Lost 27 Mar 44 - received a direct hit by flak while flying as lead ship with Major Curtis H Cofield, Group Operations Officer, on board - went down with flames coming out of the bomb bay in the Pertuis d'Antioche, 3 – 5 miles off Pointe-de- Chassiron, Ile d'Oléron, France, and blew up on hitting the water. (Pau-Pont Long airfield, France) MACR 3554
