Anthony Fokker had built aircraft since 1910. In 1914, he established a plant in Schwerin, northwest of Berlin. In World War I Fokker produced more than 3300 aircraft. Fokker developed a machine gun capable of shooting between the blades of the turning propeller. In 1921 Fokker moved to Amsterdam. In 1930 General Motors Corporation acquired Fokker. During the Second World War, the Germans occupied and ran the factory. In 1995 Fokker went bankrupt, although Fokker Space & Systems survives as Dutch Space.
