Born in Pasadena, California, Steve Snyder graduated from UCLA with a degree in Economics in 1970. During the Vietnam War, Steve served six years in the California Army National Guard. In 1972, he moved to Seal Beach, California where he lives today.

In 2009, he retired from Vision Service Plan (VSP) after a 36-year career working in sales and sales management. He then began his quest to learn more about the World War II experiences of his father, 306th Bomb Group pilot Howard Snyder, and his crew who were shot down over occupied Belgium on February 8, 1944.

After 4 ½ years of dedicated research, Steve wrote SHOT DOWN which tells what happened to each member of the crew and about the courageous Belgian people who risked their lives to help them.  Since writing the book, Steve keeps busy traveling around the country making PowerPoint presentations and attending air shows.

In addition to being a member of the 8th Air Force Historical Society Board of Directors, Steve he is also President of the 306th Bomb Group Historical Association and a member of the Air Forces Escape & Evasion Society (AFEES).
